Legalized online gambling in California prosponed

The online casino industry was ready for the legalization of online poker in California, which certainly seemed to succeed but now has been postponed for this year. Because several groups can not come up with a single plan to legalize online poker within the state, the proposal will not come to a vote in the Senate committee.

The bill would allow California residents to gamble at online poker sites that are licensed in the state. Lawmakers in California are looking for income to fill the gap of the crisis, legalizing and taxing online poker would be an option that would bring millions of dollars revenue each year. But the casinos, poker rooms and Indian tribes with gambling licenses were against the idea of outside competition, despite supporting Internet poker being under their control.

Senator Roderick Wright, who presented the bill, withdrew the measure, because the legislation still needs much work. He said it was unlikely the bill for legalized online gambling is back on the table before next year. The Morongo Band of Mission Indians opposed the wording of the proposal, they complained that the bill, keeps options open for casino gambling companies in Las Vegas and foreign casino operators to obtain a gambling license.

The Poker Player Alliance (PPA) took an opposite stand and wants established online poker operators such as Full Tilt and Party Poker to also have the right to apply for a license. The PPA also rejected a clause which makes gambling in an unlicensed online casino a criminal act. As long as the concerned parties can not come to an agreement, the plan to legalize the online poker market in the state appears to be postponed indefinitely.
