Under the guise of "Only in America", Debbie Keller, a U.S. broker from San Diego and mother of two, has sued the family-friendly restaurant chain Chuck E. Cheese because she thinks that the restaurant chain is learning children to gamble at a young age.
Chuck E. Cheese is known as a family restaurant filled with arcade cabinets to keep children occupied. Debbie Keller, mother of two children aged 3 and 5 says that the games in the restaurants are similar to gambling games such as slot machines, roulette etc. Keller is suiing Chuck E. Cheese and is demanding a compensation of $5 million or more. Eric Binnink, the lawyer for the woman, however, said the ultimate goal of this lawsuit is to remove the "gamble" games from the restaurants. Binnink explained: "We don’t think that children should be exposed to casino-style gambling devices at an arcade." The games in question do not pay cash prizes to children, but instead players must insert a coin and play a short game and the players get tickets depending on the outcome. The tickets can be redeemed for prizes and more the expensive prices cost more tickets. Chuck E. Cheese denie the charges and seek a way to dismiss the lawsuit. They say the games are legal under the law in California. A hearing is still to be scheduled. Keller wants Chuck E. Cheese to atone for the "illegal gambling devices" because she not only wants compensation, she also want the devices to disappear from the restaurants. Chuck E. Cheese declined to comment and said they would not comment on pending cases. Click the banner and sign up for the welcome bonus.
