Stud Poker is an extremely popular and widespread game involving several variations. It has been losing share because of the overwhelming enthusiasm for the Texas Hold’em kind. Among the main existing versions, we can find: 5-Card Stud, 7-Card stud, Caribbean Stud Poker, Canadian Stud and Telesina. Five-Card Stud can be listed as a “limit betting game” and involves a maximum of ten players. It is rarely played in casinos because too much skill is involved, so the game becomes interesting only when played with good players. Seven-Card Stud is the more popular variation of Stud Poker.
It is a fixed-limit game consisting of five betting rounds and involves both memory and mathematical skills. Caribbean Stud Poker differs from the other versions not only because it is played against the house rather than against other players, but also for the progressive jackpot. Canadian Stud is pretty similar to the 5-card Stud. The structure is the same (each player is dealt 5 cards, 4 face down and one face up) except for two additional ranks: 4-card straight beats a pair, 4-card flush beats a 4-card straight, 2 pair beats a 4-card flush. Telesina is a variation of poker very similar to Five-Card Stud and is spread across Italy. Even though this game is seldomly played in poker rooms, it includes many versions.
