You love to play Texas Hold'em. But where to find a game? Here's a guide to
finding the places to go to play America's new favorite pastime.
1. Online
There's always a Texas Hold'em game to be found at online poker rooms.
Whether you play on PartyPoker, PokerStars, FullTiltPoker, DoylesRoom, or one of
the many other great Internet poker sites, all it takes is a few seconds to log
in before you're up and playing. If you're not ready to play for high stakes, or
even for real money, there are play money sections of the sites that allow you
to play just for fun without putting any actual dollars at risk.
2. At a Casino
Due to laws governing gambling in most states, your casino Texas Hold'em
options are somewhat limited. However if you happen to find yourself in Las
Vegas, you should definitely check out the poker rooms at the Bellagio and the
Venetian, where you can often also play poker tournaments.
These are some of the nicest poker rooms in the world, and there are plenty of
great Texas Hold'em games to be found there. Given how popular poker has become,
you can find a Texas Hold'em game in almost any casino in Las Vegas today. In
Atlantic City, the Taj Mahal and the Borgata host the biggest and most popular
rooms for Texas Hold'em, although other casinos have expanded to include this
great game as well. Outside of Las Vegas, Nevada, and California, you are mostly
limited to casinos on Indian reservations, but some of these, like Foxwoods in
Connecticut, have great Texas Hold'em as well.
3. At a Card Room
California is famous for its poker rooms. The state of California recognizes
poker as a game of skill, so it is not subject to anti-gambling laws. The
Commerce and Bicycle Casinos are world famous and often host games that include
celebrities and poker superstars. There are plenty of great Texas Hold'em games
available at these and other card rooms all over California at all times.
4. At Home
You can always set up your own home Texas Hold'em game. Check your local
laws, but in most states, as long as you aren't hosting the game to show a
profit, it's perfectly legal. Play a traditional ring game, or a tournament for
an evening of fun competition. If you host a tournament, keep in mind that as
players bust out, you will have more and more guests sitting around with nothing
to do, so have a blind structure that moves the game at a healthy pace, and be
prepared by setting up a second game or some other way to keep busted out
players engaged until the next game.
As you can see there are plenty of ways and places to play Texas Hold'em.
Whether you want to play for high stakes or no stakes, with friends or with
strangers, cash games or tournaments, there is definitely an option out there
for you. So what are you waiting for? Shuffle up and deal!
